1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We also use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and pixels (together, “cookies” in this policy).
This policy should be read with our Privacy Policy.
2. How we use cookies
We use cookies to:
- Keep the Service secure and working (login session, CSRF, load balancing).
- Remember preferences (e.g. language, cookie choices).
- Enforce free-tier limits fairly (e.g. daily caps for anonymous AI Test).
- Store temporary client-side state for tools that work without an account (browser cache of recent diagnoses, where implemented).
- Understand product usage in aggregate (analytics — only with consent where required).
3. Types of cookies
| Category | Purpose | Consent |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Authentication, security, load balancing, cookie preference storage, abuse prevention. | Not required (strictly necessary) |
| Functional | Language, UI preferences, recent free-tool state in the browser. | May require consent depending on region |
| Analytics | Privacy-friendly product analytics (e.g. page views, feature funnels) to improve ThumbnailTools. | Consent where required (EEA/UK) |
| Marketing | Currently not a focus. If introduced, we will update this table and request consent where required. | Consent |
4. Examples we may set
| Name / key | Type | Duration (typical) |
|---|---|---|
| tt_session / auth cookies | Essential | Session or up to 30 days |
| tt_cookie_consent | Essential | Up to 1 year |
| tt_locale | Functional | Up to 1 year |
| tt_ai_test_* (localStorage) | Functional | Until cleared by you |
| Analytics IDs (provider-dependent) | Analytics | As per provider policy |
Exact cookie names may change as we ship auth and analytics. We will keep this list reasonably current.
5. Third parties
Some cookies are set by providers that help us host, authenticate, or measure the product (for example cloud hosting, auth, or analytics). Those providers process data under their own policies and our instructions as processors where applicable.
6. Managing cookies
- In-product controls — when a consent banner is active, you can accept, reject non-essential, or update preferences.
- Browser settings — block or delete cookies; note that essential cookies may be required for login and core features.
- Local storage — clear site data for thumbnailtools.com in your browser to remove free-tool cache.
7. Do Not Track / GPC
We aim to respect Global Privacy Control (GPC) and similar signals for non-essential tracking where legally required. Essential cookies may still be used to operate the Service.
8. Changes
We may update this Cookie Policy when our practices change. Check the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
